Pre-Season Friendly Result: Fairview Rangers AFC 0-1 Shamrock Rovers

Updated: Jan 16

Shamrock Rovers got their 2022 campaign off to winning ways, with a last minute winner from Danny Mandroiu in Limerick this afternoon.

Reigning FAI Junior Cup Champions Fairview Rangers AFC were Rovers first opponents of the new year, and gave the current Champions of Ireland a difficult evening. Included in the Fairview starting line-up was former Limerick FC captain Shane Duggan.

Stephen Bradley used twenty-one players throughout the 90 minutes, with this game coming just six days into Shamrock Rovers' pre-season. A tight and cagey first-half saw few and little chances from either side, with a Chris McCann effort from distance flying narrowly over Aaron Savage's crossbar in the Fairview goal being the closest either side came in the first period.

Shamrock Rovers made nine changes at the break - one of which was Jack Byrne's second debut with the club, after his short spell with Cypriot side Apoel FC last year before resigning with Rovers in November.

Rovers put the pressure on Fairview in the second-half, twice hitting the crossbar from a Sean Hoare header and a Dylan Watts effort inside the 18-yard box. The game looked like it was going to finish scoreless, until a late Danny Mandroiu effort from a Dylan Watts corner won it in the 89th minute for Stephen Bradley's men.

Rovers welcome Longford Town to our Roadstone academy complex next Saturday (12pm Kick-off) in our second pre-season friendly of the year, whilst Fairview return to competitive action in the Limerick District League - where they currently occupy second place.
