MATCH PREVIEW: Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers

Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers

Monday, 9th May 2022

SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Tallaght Stadium

8pm Kick-off

Shamrock Rovers welcome Liam Buckley's Sligo Rovers side to Tallaght Stadium for Monday night's rescheduled Premier Division clash, after the original date was moved due to Shamrock Rovers' involvement in European football later on in the summer.

In what will already be the third league meeting between the sides after just 15 games, both sides will be looking for their first three points against each other, after the first two games ended level on both occasions.

The sides most recently played only nine days ago, as the sides played out a cagey 1-1 draw in The Showgrounds. Andy Lyons' first-half header was cancelled out by a Jordan Hamilton header twenty minutes from time, as Rovers returned to the capital with just a sole point.

Sligo were the visitors to Tallaght Stadium in March, when Liam Buckley's side raced into a two-goal lead at half-time through William Fitzgerald & Aidan Keena, before two second-half goals from Graham Burke & Sean Hoare rescued a point for Stephen Bradley's side.

In the visitor's most recent league game on Friday just gone, an inspired Shelbourne side defeated the Bit O'red by two goals to one, in what was a disappointing result for Liam Buckley's side. Shelbourne raced into a two-goal lead before half-time, thanks to Jack Moylan & former-hoop Sean Boyd, before full-back Paddy Kirk halved the deficit midway through the second-half.

Meanwhile for the hoops, Stephen Bradley's side had a convincing 3-1 home victory against Finn Harps in Tallaght on Friday. Rovers raced into a 3-1 half-time lead, with Danny Mandroiu netting a double as well as Roberto Lopes getting on the scoresheet, before centre-half Conor Tourish reduced the deficit just before the half-time break for the Donegal side.

TEAM NEWS

Shamrock Rovers: Lee Grace picked up a groin injury on Friday night, and will miss the clash against Sligo. One or two knocks in the squad, but nothing major.

Sligo Rovers: Garry Buckley returns to the squad after serving suspension - after he picked up a red card against the Hoops nine days ago at The Showgrounds. Shane Blaney remains a doubt.
